Using 2 different voltages gives the entities 2 different levels of EMF to feed off of, I have found this to very effective in my investigations. My theory is that different Spirits prefer different amounts of energy.
I use only the highest grade plastic boxes, motors, and rare earth neodymium magnets grade.  The box is also waterproof.  The ON OFF switch is on the battery boxes. With no fancy switches or LED lights you have no loss of power. More wires and connections = LOST POWER!
